Is BODYARMOR Safe to Drink While Pregnant? 4 Reasons Why I Wouldn’t

Is BodyArmor SuperDrink Safe to Drink During Pregnancy?

I personally wouldn’t drink BodyArmor SuperDrink while pregnant because of the high sugar content, additional vitamins, concentrated coconut water, and natural flavors.

Things to Consider When Consuming BodyArmor SuperDrink During Pregnancy

I’m a little hesitant to drink BodyArmor SuperDrink while pregnant because of the following:

The BodyArmor SuperDrink contains 28g sugar (per 16oz. serving). That’s a boatload for a beverage.

The effects of secondhand sugar are real: “Sugar consumption during pregnancy may increase gestational weight gain and the development of pregnancy complications, such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and preterm birth.” ”1.

Even though the LYTE version doesn’t have any added sugar, it does have the sweeteners erythritol and stevia.

You should refrain from drinking anything with a lot of sugar, especially while pregnant.

In addition to taking a daily prenatal vitamin, I abstained from taking synthetic vitamins while I was pregnant. You need enough for both you and the baby’s development, but too much can be harmful. This is a delicate balance. Vitamins A, C, E, and B-complex, which are some of the most prevalent components in prenatal vitamins, are present in BodyArmor SuperDrink.

Many businesses use coconut water concentrate because it reduces the cost and facilitates the import of the good.

The downside to this method is that it requires heating coconut water for an extended period of time at extremely high temperatures in order to convert it into a concentrate. The beneficial enzymes will become less effective due to this heat. As a result, coconut water will significantly lose some of its healthiest nutrients.

If I’m going to consume any type of coconut drink, I always try to find organic, fair trade, and not from concentrate (check out Harmless Harvest Coconut Water here).

As an aside, coconut water is excellent for consumption before and during labor. (It was my drink of choice during both labors!).

Recently, I’ve been looking for the term “natural flavors” in ingredient lists. Why? Because it’s similar to when “fragrance” is listed.

Meaning, businesses can classify a wide range of items as natural flavors. Here’s what PubMed has to say about them:

“In reality, ‘natural flavors’ can contain artificial and synthetic chemicals (often used as processing aids), which are far from what consumers might expect. ”2.

Unfortunately, it’s found in so many packaged foods today. I’m trying to stay away from them as much as I can. Join the.
