We spoke to a doctor to find out if it is safe for pregnant women to have ginger during pregnancy, in the form of ginger tea and other foods, and in what quantity.
Every Indian household uses ginger in a variety of dishes. Despite the fact that everyone is aware of ginger’s medicinal benefits, some expectant mothers wonder if they should consume ginger during their pregnancy and if so, how much, and for what purposes.
Dr. Bandita Sinha, a gynecologist and fertility expert at Hiranandani Hospital, answered Express Parenting’s questions about the safety of consuming ginger while pregnant.
★ IS IT SAFE TO EAT GINGER DURING PREGNANCY?
Consuming fresh ginger root while pregnant is safe. However, due to higher levels of two active compounds, shogaol and gingerol, dried ginger root should not be consumed during pregnancy. Which are about three times more than in fresh ginger. It is recommended that you consume raw ginger in moderation.

★ HOW MUCH GINGER SHOULD I TAKE DAILY?
According to research, consuming up to one gram (1,000 mg) of fresh, real ginger daily is safe for both you and your unborn child. This is approximately one teaspoon of fresh ginger, which can be divided into two to four doses. Moderation is important when consuming ginger during pregnancy.
Making a tea with fresh lemon, honey, and boiling water that contains fresh ginger can help with nausea. Or you can consume a prenatal vitamin containing ginger powder.
